Magic: the Gathering
Magic is a collectible trading card game of fun-filled, strategic games to play with friends old and new. Welcoming worldbuilders, narrative lovers, and gameplay enthusiasts alike, Magic has something for everyone and countless ways to play. Whether you're sitting at the kitchen table, playing online, or battling in a high-stakes competition, there's a place for you in the world of Magic: The Gathering.
Is this cheating? 100% Does MtG deserve a spot on the Advent Calendar? Without a doubt.
If not for this "silly card game" Iron Knight Gaming wouldn't exist; directly in the sense that the store originated as an online-only way for me to sell individual cards I had accumulated over more than a decade of playing and collecting, and indirectly in that I have made lifelong friends playing Magic, I previously travelled the world helping run tournaments for it, and I have definitely learned a lot of my event management skills through those days!
Magic is the original Trading Card Game, taking the collectability of baseball cards and combining them with the strategic gameplay of a game like Chess - meaning you could actually do something with them. First created in 1993 the game took off like a rocket and has been a fixture of hobby stores ever since. The primary modes of play have evolved over the many years of its life with Commander being the current hit; a multiplayer format that allows you to express yourself through deckbuilding and plays enough like a boardgame that I take it back, I'm not cheating by listing MtG!
Ever since we opened our physical storefront, we have had at least one weekly MtG event on, and it really is the lifeblood of the store. If you want to learn to play, or make some new friends, come on down on a Friday or Saturday!
